Personal Information

Troy Flad is a 2nd generation chuckwagon driver who has spent more than half his life driving chuckwagons professionally. In 2009 he qualified for his second career sudden death championship final heat at Edmonton’s Chuckwagon Derby at the Dodge World Chuckwagon Championships and qualified for the Calgary Stampede for the 2nd consecutive year. He posted 11 top ten runs including 4 runs that placed inside the top five. Top ten overall finishes at the Colonial Days Fair in Lloydminster, the Red Deer Chuckwagon Championship and Edmonton’s Chuckwagon Derby were his best of the year. Troy received the WPCA Showmanship Award for Professionalism in 2003, won the DC Energy Services Clean Drive Award at the 2006 Red Deer Chuckwagon Championship, the UFA Community Ambassador Award at the 2004 Rocky Mountain Turf Club Derby in Lethbridge, and was a finalist for the Ponoka Stampede Championship in 2002. Troy started his driving career at age 16 as a member of the Northern Professional Chuckwagon Association (now CPCA), and received the NPCA's Most Sportsmanlike Driver award in 1992. Troy is the son of former Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby Champion the late Herman Flad, younger brother to current driver Darcy Flad, and brother-in-law to former outrider Dave Biever. Troy enjoys skiing and golf in the off-season. Troy and Shannon have five children - Randilee, Blaid, Gage, Trez, and Shayle, and make their home in Warburg, Alberta.
