Personal Information
One of chuckwagon racing's young stars and most talented drivers, Evan competed at his first career Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby in 2013. He posted 5 top ten runs in 2013 with 2 of those runs placing inside the top five, and he qualified for the winner-take-all championship final heat at the season opening Grande Prairie Stompede. In 2012 Evan won the first show championship of his career at the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede, his right wheeler “D.J.” was named to the WPCA Equine Outfit of Excellence, was the recipient of the Herman Flad Memorial Award for the WPCA's Most Improved Driver and qualified for his first career winner-take-all championship final heat at the North American Chuckwagon Championship and finished second. Evan received the Kenn Borek Most Sportsmanlike Driver Award at the Battle of the North in 2011. Evan started his career in 2008 on the Western Chuckwagon Association (WCA) circuit where he won the WCA’s Rycroft show in 2009, was runner-up for the WCA championship, and was named the WCA’s Most Improved Driver. Prior to driving big chuckwagons, Evan started racing pony chariots when he was 14 and pony chuckwagons at 16. Evan raced pony wagons from British Columbia to Manitoba and even into Nebraska where he won roughly a half dozen shows. Evan is a 2nd generation driver whose uncle is former driver Ray Salmond and cousin is current driver Rod Salmond. In the off season, Evan is a harness maker and works in the forestry industry. He enjoys hockey and ski-dooing and along with his new bride Adriane, makes his home in Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan.
