Personal Information
It was a tremendous breakthrough year for this talented young dchuckwagon driver. In just his third year on the WPCA Pro Tour, Evan won the first of what will likely be many more show championship of his career at the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede and placed a career best 3rd in the 2012 World Standings. His right wheeler “D.J.” was named to the WPCA Equine Outfit of Excellence and was the recipient of the WPCA Most Improved Driver Award. He qualified for his first career winner-take-all championship final heat at the North American Chuckwagon Championship finishing second to Kelly Sutherland, and qualified for his first career Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby in 2013. 2012 saw Evan post 22 top ten runs, including 2 first place runs and 10 runs that cracked the top five. He placed in the top ten overall at six of the eight WPCA Pro Tour shows, and placed two wagons inside the top ten overall at the Colonial Days Fair in Lloydminster. Evan received the Kenn Borek Most Sportsmanlike Driver Award at the Battle of the North in 2011. Evan started his career in 2008 on the Western Chuckwagon Association (WCA) circuit where he won the WCA’s Rycroft show in 2009, was runner-up for the WCA championship, and was named the WCA’s Most Improved Driver. Prior to driving big chuckwagons, Evan started racing pony chariots when he was 14 and pony chuckwagons at 16. Evan raced pony wagons from British Columbia to Manitoba and even into Nebraska where he won roughly a half dozen shows. Evan is a 2nd generation driver whose uncle is former driver Ray Salmond and cousin is current driver Rod Salmond. In the off season, Evan is a harness maker and works in the forestry industry. He enjoys hockey and ski-dooing and along with his fiancee Adriane, makes his home in Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan.
