Personal Information
A champion chuckwagon driver in the making, Chanse followed up a successful rookie campaign in 2012 with another successful season in 2013. He won the Calgary Stampede's Orville Strandquist Memorial Award  for Top Rookie Driver and his horse "CANDY" was named the Calgary Stampede Equine Outfit of Excellence Champion Right Wheeler. He posted 13 top ten runs including 2 day money runs - one at the Calgary Stampede and one at the Saskatoon World Chuckwagon Races, and 6 runs that cracked the top five. He qualified for "Semi-Final Saturday" at the Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby in his rookie campaign and his 3 place overall finish at the GMC Rangeland Derby was his best of the year. As an outrider, Chanse had an outstanding 2013 season winning more shows than any other outrider. He won the Grande Prairie Stompede, Medicine Hat Stampede and Battle of the North outriding for Rick Fraser, the Saskatoon World Chuckwagon Races outriding for John Walters, the Battle of the Rockies outriding for his father Mike Vigen, and even filled in for Jason Glass' triumph at the Ponoka Stampede riding the winner-take-all championship final. In 2012 Chanse won the WPCA Top Rookie Driver award, had a horse named to the WPCA’s Equine Outfit of Excellence, and become just the fifth driver in WPCA history to qualify for the Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby in his rookie year. Chanse is a record five-time World Champion outrider, was the WPCA’s Top Rookie Outrider in 2001, received the Rod Glass Memorial Award for the WPCA’s Most Improved Outrider in 2002, has and outrode for three Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby Championship outfits, and four Calgary Stampede Aggregate winners. Chanse is a third generation World Champion whose father is four-time World Champion Outrider and current driver Mike Vigen, and his grandfather was five-time World and three-time Calgary Stampede Champion chuckwagon legend Ralph Vigen. He is a cousin to fellow driver Rae Croteau Jr., works as a farrier and enjoys hockey, basketball, and golf in the off season.
