Personal Information
One of the finest all-around hands in professional chuckwagon racing, 2013 saw Doug drive two outfits at the Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby and re-qualify both for 2014. He drove injured driver Jamie Laboucane's outfit and qualified it for the GMC Rangeland Derby's semi-final round, and grabbed the final qualifying spot driving his own outfit as well. Overall, 2013 saw Doug post 14 top ten runs, including a day money run at the Grande Prairie Stompede and 5 runs that cracked the top five. He placed in the top ten at 4 of 6 shows that he drove at, with a runner-up finish at his hometown Bonnyville Chuckwagon Championship by just 38 one-hundredths of a second being his best of the year. An off track injury following the Bonnyville show sidelined Doug for the remainder of the year. In 2012 Doug qualified for his first GMC Rangeland Derby winner–take–all championship final finishing second by a mere one one-hundredth of a second – the closest winner-take-all final in Calgary Stampede history. He won his first Calgary Stampede day money on day 4 of the 2012 GMC Rangeland Derby, and ran penalty free all ten days. Doug was the Ponoka Stampede champion driver in 2008, received the WPCA Clean Drive Award in 2006, and outrode for two Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby Championship outfits, 3 Calgary Stampede Aggregate winners, and 2 Ponoka Stampede championship outfits. Doug started his career on the CPCA circuit where he was the CPCA’s High Point Rookie Driver in 1998, the CPCA’s High Point Rookie outrider in 1993 and the CPCA outrider champion in 1997. A truck driver for B & R Eckel's Transport Ltd. in the off-season, Doug also enjoys playing hockey. Doug and his wife Jimmi Lou have 3 children - Dacia, Britton and Maddi Jo, and make their home near Bonnyville, Alberta.
