Personal Information
A vereran driver who has made a life out of working with thoroughbreds, Barry won the WPCA Clean Drive Award in 2012 for taking just a single penalty second all season long, won the Colonial Days Fair in Lloydminster for the second time in his career, and tied his career best in the World Standings placing 18th overall. He posted 11 top ten runs, including a first place run at the Colonial Days Fair, and six runs that placed inside the top five. He participated in the “Mini-Chuckwagon” races during the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship in Calgary in 2011. Barry won the DC Energy Services Clean Drive Award at the 2007 Badlands Dinosaur Derby in Drumheller, the DC Energy Services Clean Drive Award at the 2006 Ponoka Stampede and has qualified for 5 career sudden death championship final heats. Prior to driving chuckwagons, Barry spent twenty-two years as a thoroughbred trainer at Assiniboia Downs in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Turf Paradise in Phoenix, Arizona, winning over 400 races and over 1.5 million in purses. Barry is the nephew of former World and 3-time Calgary Stampede champion Dave Lewis, and cousin to fellow competitor Rick Fraser. Barry lists hockey, horse racing and ski-dooing amongst his interests. Barry has 2 children - Justin and Cody, and makes his home in Wetaskiwin, Alberta.
