Personal Information
A champion chuckwagon driver and outrider, Mike has four major wins as a chuckwagon driver with the most prominent victory of his career coming at the Ponoka Stampede in 1998. He is a four–time World Champion Outrider, received the WPCA's Most Improved Chuckwagon Outfit in 1996, and the WPCA Showmanship Award in 2000.He qualified for the Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby winner–take–all n championship final heat and won the Calgary Stampede's Mullen Group Safe Drive Award for the Least Penalized Driver in 1998. He won the Calgary Stampede's Orville Strandquist Award for the Top Rookie Driver in 1993 and outrode for five Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby Championship outfits and four Calgary Stampede Aggregate winners. 2012 saw Mike's horse “RIVER" was named to the Calgary Stampede’s inaugural Equine Outfit of Excellence in 2012. He posted 9 top ten runs including a day money run at the Calgary Stampede and 4 runs that cracked the top five. Mike set a track record in 2011 at the Bonnyville Chuckwagon Championship and holds the track record at the Rocky Mountain Turf Club Derby in Lethbridge as well. Mike is the son of three–time GMC Rangeland Derby Champion the late Ralph Vigen who is considered by many to be the greatest chuckwagon driver of all time. Mike is the father of fellow driver Chanse Vigen and uncle to Rae Croteau Jr. A truck driver in the off-season, Mike has two children - Brandy and Chanse.
