The 2013 Race Against Hunger Program
Encana has supported the World Professional Chuckwagon Association (WPCA) since 2004 as part of the company’s overall commitment to community enhancement and rural lifestyles in communities where they live and work. The Race Against Hunger program takes place on the WPCA's rodeo circuit in communities where Encana has operations: Grande Prairie, Ponoka, Strathmore, Dawson Creek Rocky Mountain House and Calgary. In 2012: 11,536 pounds of food and $103,246.49 was raised for local food banks.

The Race Against Hunger Program was recently one of three Encana initiatives recognized with a President’s Award in the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers’ 2013 Responsible Canadian Energy Awards. The President’s Award is presented to energy companies for activities that demonstrate exceptional environmental, health, safety or social performance.

Want to get behind us in making 2013 even more successful?
Encana proposes a friendly competition to the WPCA drivers, challenging them to engage friends, fans and sponsors to raise the most food and money in support of the Race Against Hunger over the summer.
Drivers participate in Food Driver events at local grocery stores where they help bag groceries, sell food hampers, or race down the aisles in a friendly competition. The winner each year will be recognized as the official ‘Food Driver of the Year’ and will be eligible for a $1,000 donation to the food bank of his choice, courtesy of Encana. Not to mention bragging rights!

The Heat is on for Food Driver of the Year! If you want to support your favourite driver this year, please bring your donation to any of Encana’s events in a labeled bag or envelope so it can be added to the tally. Watch the website for updates as to who is in the lead.

Amidst blaring horns and thundering hooves, the Race Against Hunger had a tremendous showing at this year’s Grande Prairie Stompede May 29 to June 2. In the first of many stops in the 2013 Race Against Hunger tour, Encana staff, World Professional Chuckwagon Association (WPCA) drivers, and kids from Grand Prairie’s wrestling club teamed up to race down the aisles and fill grocery carts with food items of greatest need by local food banks. Thanks to support from the WPCA and community members, 4,440 pounds of food and $15,577.51 was raised for the Sexsmith Food Bank.
